Holiday Morning Walk

I was quite ambitious on Friday. I knew there were four days for me to enjoy off from work with lots of events planned. But when I woke up and rolled out of bed to get ready for my walk, I had extra energy and a little spring in my step.

The sites along my walk did not disappoint me! Although I miss walking with Greg, I also enjoy the peace and quiet and the stillness of dawn.

After my walk, I hopped in the car and headed to a doctor’s appointment and since it was raining, I thought I would walk around Kohl’s to see if I could find any special deals. Not much really, but then I remembered that I needed a box to ship stuff off to Rachel and potting soil so that I could finally plant the scallions that have been taking root in my kitchen. So I stopped at Home Depot.

When I returned home, I refueled with some lunch so that I had another burst of energy to clean the house and prepare the guest room/office/former Rachel’s bedroom!! My cousin is coming to spend the weekend and I like it to look nice for company. It’s what Gloria taught me!

Then I had to run to Hyundai to get my car serviced. And, while I was there, I visited with my good buddy Tony King. He, of course, was trying to convince me to trade in my car for a 2021 because they are in need of used cars. Didn’t do that but I told him I would think about it for less than I am paying now!

While I was there and waiting for my car, I ordered Pub Subs (for those of you not in south Florida — those are subway sandwiches made at Publix).

When I got home I packed my car with my chair, beverages, and snacks and picked up Roberto, and off we went to Friday Night Sound Waves. It is a weekly concert series in a new park on Las Olas and the beach.

The weather was perfect and the music — the Valerie Tyson Band — was wonderful. I have hired that band many times in Pompano Beach and also for Broward 100. I made a new friend who loves the arts. I also made another friend who shared a glass of wine. It was like a small community of relaxed, chill people. The age range was from 2 to 80!  A perfect evening.

And, I love the new parking garage public art!

Blue

Morning light has such a soft and gentle beginning. All things reflect a bit of blue. Shadows are long. But as the sun moves higher in the sky, the hues warm to a golden shimmer.  The sun peaks through the leaves of the trees as it continues its journey.

Morning is my favorite time of the day

It’s a New Dawn

There is change in the air. Yes, change is inevitable and the more things change, the more they remain the same. But, change is here, whether I am ready or not.

However, I will go about my day, do the mundane tasks that need to be done to make my life flow . . . be it laundry, sweeping the floor, changing the kitty litter, vacuuming the rug, or cleaning up after a meal.  These tasks make the change more acceptable because there is a constant that is familiar.

This sunrise, although brief, also reminded me that the world turns in its axis and continues its own mundane tasks so that we may get up each day and be greeted by nature’s beauty.

Sensory Overload

Continuing my morning walks without my friend, Greg, provides me with the time to be introspective and become more aware of how nature affects the senses.

This morning I had to talk myself into getting out of bed at 6:30 am, but I was glad that I did.

The view of the lake was peaceful as I honed in on the sounds of the birds that are nesting in the trees along the perimeter. The turtles poked their noses out of the water which created a pattern of dots along the calm water and then created a ripple effect when they swooped under to hide because of my movements.

I didn’t even mind when I walked through several spiderwebs that I had to them brush off of my arms and forehead.

Along the road I watched as the sun began to creep up slowly methodically creating a warm and painterly wash that looked like a watercolor canvas.

On my way back home, I gazed up at the delicate pink blossoms that only last a few days and then fall to the ground to create a carpet of petals as though a wedding ceremony has just taken place and the guests have long gone to celebrate.

And then there are the scents.  Some sweet and others pungent, but not bad.

Although the walk ends, I continue enjoying this weather as I bring my breakfast out to the back patio. I will sit here until I feel the need to do something on my “To Do” list. But not quite yet!

Crack of Dawn

Went on my last morning walk with Greg this morning. For now anyway. He and Jan are leaving for their first vacation since the pandemic. I can’t believe that they will be gone for seven weeks. But, I will be fine.

I can’t say that I would have felt this way a few months ago. But there has been a shift in me and I feel more independent and sure of myself. I am okay to be alone. I have many things to keep me busy. Now that I am fully vaccinated, I feel more confident going out into the world.

I am ready to schedule a photo shoot and explore someplace new.

But, for today, here is my photo. Hope that you enjoy the view as I did many hours ago.

 A Visit to FAT Village

After meeting a friend for lunch at Sistrunk Marketplace, I decided to take a stroll through FAT Village since I was already in Downtown Fort Lauderdale and only one block away! I parked on NW 5th Street near Francisco Sheuat's gallery and went to visit him first.

It was so special to get a warm and friendly greeting.  It has been way too long since we have spoken.  I stayed for a short visit and then started to wander around FAT Village.  If you are not familiar, it stands for Flagler Arts and Technology Village and every last Saturday, they hold an artwalk there.

I have not been in FAT Village since way before the pandemic, and not during the day in years, since I used to help the Business for the Arts of Broward with their monthly arts tours.

These are some of my images of the murals and happenings. late on a Saturday afternoon.
