Project 365 - Photo of the Day - July 4, 2008

Happy Fourth of July!!

I spent most of the day cleaning and cleaning. I started in the kitchen, worked my way through the living room and dining room, did the bathrooms and finished in my bedroom. I really did a great job if I must say!! It included sweeping and mopping of floors and vacuuming in corners that haven't been touched in a long time! I did, however, avoid the girls' rooms. They are on their own there. I just can't do that anymore. Not because I can't, but because I refuse. Everytime I help them clean their rooms, two days later it looks like it did before I helped. So if they want clean rooms, they are old enough to do it themselves. I also did several loads of laundry.

I was done by 3 p.m. and then I sat down at my computer because it was a really rainy day and I wanted to catch up on email and photos.

After dinner we headed over to the newest county park which happens to be located in Lauderhill. They were having a cricket match followed by fireworks. Well, the cricket match was cancelled due to the rain and lightning, but by 9:15 p.m. the fireworks went off! We knew so many people there so it made the time pass while we waited for the rain to ease up, and it was fun chatting with them.



This is a photo of Mahammad Qureshi or MAQ as his friends call him. He owns a very large real estate corporation and brings the cricket teams to south Florida. He stopped for a moment to pose with the girls.



Mr. L is showing his support for Lauderhill (see the water bottle) and also he is wearing his special shirt for Adina's orthodontist. They have this policy that if you wear your shirt each time you come for your appointment, you get a discount on the doctor's appointment charges!



So, what do teenagers do when they are bored? Text, text, text! Do you think that they were texting each other? I wouldn't put it past them!



These are the various shots that I took of the fireworks. I had my tripod and I played with the settings. I wasn't 100 percent happy with the shots, but I had fun and then I used Photoshop to fix them up a bit. I welcome suggestions on how to get rid of the smoky haze behind the fireworks and still have a long enough exposure to get the light trail.

Why, you might ask, did I take a photo of two garbage cans?

It is a very simple answer. Because it was a momentous occasion. My neighbor and friend and co-carpooler, Robert, NEVER, and I mean NEVER puts the garbage out!

He lives alone, eats out or at our house. I never quite understood how a person can have absolutely NO garbage! But we take our garbage can out twice a week and more often than not, it is filled with "stuff."

But Robert never has any garbage. I have come to the assumption that he puts his small amount into our garbage can, but he won't admit to that. He prefers to be known as the man with no garbage!

So when I came out of the house on Wednesday and saw this site, I just HAD to take a photo of it!

Project 365 - Photo of the Day - June 27, 2008

I am uploading out of order so bear with me.

On June 27, which was a Friday, two of my employees dragged me away from my computer screen, away from my budget documents (which were due by the end of the day to our Budget office) and made me go to lunch at Offerdahl's. Yeah, it is owned by the former Miami Dolphin, John Offerdahl.

I keep the small Nikon pocket-sized camera in my purse and along the way I found some interesting items and scenes to shoot.



This first photo I call "Leftovers." For some unknown reason someone left Costco brand packaged food on the ledge inside of the parking garage. We were trying to figure out if they decided to leave it there because it went bad in their car or if they set it on the ledge while they were putting money into the parking meter and then forgot to take it with them. In any case, it was just a bizarre site to see!



I took this photo from the parking garage because I liked the view of the building. In addition, you can see the windows to my office. I am all the way on the right side of the building, on the sixth floor. The building is eight stories high so count three down from the top floor and that is my office space. I have a corner office so I have two sets of ceiling to floor windows which I absolutely love! The windows face east (so I get the morning sun) and north (I can see north west and see if it is raining over Lauderhill!!)
























I was on the roof of the parking garage and loved this view of second street. It looks so urban! I remember when downtown Fort Lauderdale was just a small town. It is nice to see this development. This is the beginning of the Arts and Entertainment District. It is unique because it is completely walkable, has the Museum of Art, the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society and Museusm, the Museum of Discovery and Science AND the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on this one street. Not to mention all of the restaurants and bars which make it a fun mixture!
























I liked the way you look into the "bowels" of the parking garage. I had the feeling of when you have two mirrors facing each other and you keep seeing the same image into infinity.



And this was just a fun photo of a smart car that was pulling out of the parking garage as we were crossing the street to get to the restaurant. You don't see many of these cars in America, mostly in Europe. It reminded me of the cars that they use in the circus when clowns keep coming out, and coming out, and coming out.

Project 365 - Photo of the Day - July 3, 2008

Thank you Robert. He gave Rachel and me two tickets to see Ringo Starr and the All Starr Band. It was at the Hard Rock Cafe and this was my chance to see the fourth Beatle . . . LIVE!

I have seen all of the others, John Lennon when he walked out on the Elton John concert at Madison Square Garden, George Harrison when he was performing with Ravi Shankar and Paul McCartney in Miami the night I found out I was pregnant with Rachel.

This was taken by Rachel's cell phone. Can't see Ringo, but I know he is there!

Project 365 - Photo of the Day - July 1, 2008

So I got these free tickets to see a preview of the film "the Rocker" and Joel and Adina didn't want to go. Robert, Rachel and I went. It starred Raine Wilson from the Office and a bunch of others and this guy, Teddy Geiger -- a teen hearthrob singer.

After the film, out comes Teddy Geiger and my daughter almost melted in her seat! He did a Q and A about the film and his music and then let everyone take photos and signed autographs. Well, of course I had a camera tucked into my purse, not the best shot, but Rachel was very happy!

Project 365 - Photo of the Day - June 29, 2008 Part II

Before we went to the JCC, I did a favor for my friend, Samantha. She wanted to put her house on the list for film locations and needed photos. So Adina and I went over early in the morning.

I really only liked the interior photos and the one of the teapot.

The exterior were just okay.

Adina wanted to volunteer with her friend, Sarah, at the JCC. There was an event where they brought in an animator from the "Golden Age of Comics" to talk about his experiences and then they showed the documentary about a bunch of the animators from the 40s, 50s and 60s. It was a fun event and of course, Adina didn't waste any time jumping right into the action!

I took some photos for my database at work too. There is a children's museum on the property and I don't have good photos. These are just a few of the ones that I took. There are many more.
