 It’s a New Dawn, It’s a New Day

Today, I start my new job. This image was made yesterday along my walk. It seems very appropriate as I end my two week break and start a new career.

I accomplished everything that I set out to do on my vacation.

I had my bedroom painted and rehung the photos.  I had my driveway painted with a gray combination of sand in the mix so that I won’t slip and fall (again).  I bought granite for my kitchen counters which will be installed tomorrow. And I turned my old laptop into a digital photo frame and uploaded all my photos (about 20,000) onto Amazon Photos.

I also went to the gym almost daily after my morning walk. And saw friends.

I am ready to face this new challenge.

Warm Skies

As the Midwest is in the midst of a snowstorm and frigid temperatures, this morning’s sky greeted me with a tangerine colors. This is the time of year that I love South Florida. Not so much in the middle of the summer when my clothes instantly stick to my skin as I walk out the front door from the air conditioning to the 95 degree temperatures with 90 percent humidity.

The walk was extremely pleasant and after about one block, I shed my sweatshirt and tied it around my waist.

Our morning walk wouldn’t be complete without a visit with Bob and Shubba the Vizsla dog that greets us with such enthusiasm that you just have to love him!

The weather continued to be absolutely perfect throughout the day and as the sun is beginning to set, I am still outside on my patio not wanting to go inside.

Hangin’ Around

I know that these guys are not native to South Florida, but they sure are fun to look at and photograph. Iguanas, also known as tree chickens in some parts of the Caribbean, are fascinating to me because of the metamorphosis they go through from their youth to maturity. They start out in bright greens and then move to browns and oranges as they age.

I saw this guy in the City of Sunrise as I was walking back to my car after dropping off a present for my aunt. I heard this crackling noise and as I turned to look, I realized that it was this iguana shimmying up a tree.

I took a lot of images. But, this one I liked because he let me walk fairly close to him and zoom in on him while he stared at me and didn’t move.

In the next few days, the weather people on TV will be telling us to look out for falling iguanas!  The cold front that is swooping down here will bring some of the coldest temperatures in a decade. Supposedly, Saturday morning will be in the low 30s.  This will be a nice change and we can pull out our layers of sweaters and scarfs!  But these poor cold-blooded creatures will be hibernating and/or falling out of trees and off of roofs. However, when the weather warms up, they will bounce back and start to eat all of our beautiful flowers once again.

The Morning After

Yesterday was Joels birthday. He would have been 67. Although it was not a difficult day for me, I did find myself talking to Joel. I told him all about how I am doing and that I miss him everyday. I wished him a happy birthday and told him that the girls and I would celebrate. Joel was all about celebrating events with food, desserts and presents.

Well, this morning I felt as though he gave me the present of a glorious sunrise. As soon as I left my house, I just knew that the pinks in the sky were going to be spectacular. And of course, I was not disappointed.

Morning Walk

A beautifully cool morning produced crisp and clear images. I am loving the camera on this new iPhone!

The first image shows an anhinga flying toward its nest. The next is a squirrel observing me from its perch. The last, well it shows the lovely colors of sunrise and how far this camera has evolved in capturing the oranges. Andy understands. We have discussed this many times.

 New Year, New Life

Last night, as I celebrated the end of 2021 with family and friends, I realized that I completed one entire year without Joel. And, I am okay with that.

I have grown as an individual, I have participated in healing events, I have taken care of my health and physical wellbeing and I have reconnected with many friends. I am now ready for the new year, new adventures and new beginnings.

However, this post is dedicated to the more artsy photos that I took during our visit to Indiana to be with my daughter and her husband to celebrate the holidays. I posted my other images on Instagram and  Facebook.  But these images were for me.

 Peaceful Morning

During my walk on Friday morning, the mist was swirling around the base of this tree as the sun was rising. Such a calming and peaceful moment that I felt the need to capture this image.

As I continued my walk with Greg, we ran into Bob and Chuba (a beautiful Vizsla dog). I got the most enthusiastic greeting!  I haven’t seen them since last year, they are snowbirds, so its been quite a few months.  But this dog is so friendly and gentle and his fur is so soft, especially his ears.

I have always been an animal lover.  I am particularly vulnerable now because I had to put one of my cats to sleep two weeks ago. I am missing her like crazy, she slept with me every night. She was with us for 15 years. And, she was my last connection to Joel.  So, its been a rough couple of weeks.

But, back to my peaceful morning . . . I love the walking, the fresh air, the sunrise, the conversation and the surprises along the walk.
